This is the structure map I generated in the process of writing this text. It represents all the nodes (or lexias, or writing spaces) and links that comprise the document. Much of the structure is not visible in this view, which is of the "top level" only. If you were viewing this map in Storyspace instead of a WorldWideWeb browser, you would be able to move among the levels of the structure and even manipulate relations and links.
So far, no Web browser has included representation and manipulation tools comparable to those in Storyspace. Is it any surprise, then, that the hypertextual designs we have seen so far on the Web have been relatively simple and tame?
