wyoming 2:2
The wind kept up all day, pushing us around the road, terrifying when leeward of gravel trucks and such. There seemed to be no official rest stops on that road, like they'd all blown away, so we stopped once just at the side. It was an enclosed stretch, but even there the wind howled around us like we were a nuisance hindering its passage. Where's this wind blowing to, said Jill. Someplace big. Jack had snot fanning out under his nose. I gave him a tissue. He blew then went to hand back the tissue but let it go, the wind sweeping it away, faster than the thighbone at lunch. Instinctively, I reached out to hold the kids, to keep them from blowing away, too. And myself, most of my muscles were tensed. If I let myself go here, howling, I would be lost, another hairless cat.
