klamath falls
Oregon welcomes you. Thanks for visiting. And they mean visiting, but California means to stay. A sign above the motel here says "Today alone, 45,626 people moved to Oregon." And most of them vote republican. The motel is less than luxurious. The pool was drained, the manager said, during the draught of 1977, and never refilled. Jack is dying for a swim, and Jill can hardly sleep unless she gets some exercise, so we load back into the car and drive around looking for an obscure address, the municipal pool. Finally, we find it, but it too is closed for the season, even though it is summer. The wettest state and no water to swim in "Sorry," I tell them. They are unusually quiet.
