Global Game Jam at the University of Baltimore

See the IDGA home page for the Global Game Jam and their global rules.
From Ian Schreiber: For release 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time - 1/30/2009

This is it -- the Global Game Jam is here! We're very excited, and we hope you are too.

Some of your participants may have questions about how exactly to interpret the constraints. The interpretation is entirely up to each individual team, and we expect there will be many creative interpretations.

Without further ado, here are the constraints for your time zone:

1. A complete play session must always last 5 minutes or less.
2. The theme of the game should be: "As long as we have each other, we will never run out of problems."
3. Choose ONE of the following adjectives to incorporate in your game (each team chooses which one to use): illusionary, pointed, or persistent.

What is a Global Game Jam?
Folks all over the world will be designing games to the same theme in the same 48 hour period. The Global Game Jam is sponsored by the International Game Developers Association (IDGA)

Where is the UB site?
Our location is in the Camille Kendall Academic Center at the Universities at Shady Grove (map)

Who may participate?
Anyone who wants the fun and challenge of the creative process. Students under the age of 18 must be chaperoned. Prizes will be awarded within our local game jam. All completed games will be up-loaded to the IDGA global game jam site by 3 pm EST on Feb 1 and may be selected to be displayed at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, March 23-27, 2009. Teams of up to 5 people may form. Ideal size for a team for this is 3-4 people, with varying skill sets of design, audio, graphics, and programming.

What is the schedule?
We will post the game jam topic as soon as it is released. Then we will build your teams and you show up for work at 8:00 am Saturday 1/31/09. Work continues until 3:00 PM on Sunday 2/1/09 when games will be presented by teams to the local global game jam participants. Visitors are welcome to view the presentations. More information.

What computers are available?
There are 30 PC computers available for your use. They are populated with most standard game development tools. If you prefer to bring a laptop, feel free. There will be facilities for you to plug in and hook up to the network. More information.

What about personal needs?
Some food will be provided at meal times. Restaurants and food stores are within walking distance for extra noshes. Vending machines are in the game jam suite. Bring a sleeping bag if you like. There will be a quiet room. Shower facilities are available.

How do we register?
Send in $10 plus this registration form by January 26, 2009. Maximum number of jammers at this site is 30. Arrival date of checks is official registration date.

Why an Emu?
A bit if trivia: The emu is the mascot of the UBgamer campus organization.
The UBgamer is an anagram of Grab the Emu.
