P. 28: Early books are called "incunabula" (cradle-works). Are current electronic productions merely the incunabula of their forms and genres?

Multiform stories... What Ifs, Elseworlds... a complicating sense of narrative.

Audience as participator: "textual poaching" and role-playing.

P. 47: Watching a 3-D IMAX movie, Murray wants to follow a couple of extras who pass on the street: "I want to follow that couple and see what their story is."

P. 51: "the more successful [elaborate action sequences linked to thrill rides] become, the more often movies will incorporate action sequences designed specifically for development as other 'market windows.' This may produce an entertainment paradise for fifteen-year-old boys, but it would mean an emotionally impoverished narrative form composed of many helicopter shots and far fewer moments of closeness with a particular human being."

P. 58: "Unlike the first users of the medium, the next generation of writers will take the hyertext format for granted. As they come into greater expressiveness, they will bring the tangled structures of the current Web into more coherent order."

P. 64: Judging from the current landscape, we can expect a continued loosening of the traditional boundaries between games and stories, between films and rides, between broadcast media (like television and radio) and archival media (like books or videotape), between narrative forms (like books) and dramatic forms (like theater or film), and even between the audience and the author.

P. 64: Murray recommends turning attention away from "formats imposed upon the computer by the older media" to "properties native to the machine itself."
