Demo: An Unusual Interface Featuring a Cutout Mask
This odd and not especially useful interface illustrates a few interesting
Director and Lingo techniques, such as use of an opaque mask with
a transparent cutout and the coordination of mouse events across
multiple channels (or layers).
More to the point, this demonstration suggests a first step
in your conceptual task for Assignment 4: thinking beyond
the simple point-and-click, text-anchored interface conventions
dominant on the Web.
Click the thumbnail above to view the movie.
Drag the white circle anywhere on the screen.
When you find a text cue it should turn a bright color; the cues are not active unless the cutout circle is right over them.
Click to activate the link.
Click on the destination image to return to the main interface.
The source file called
maskDemo2.dir is available in the subdirectory
maskDemo within multimediaShare on Cow.
