Change in Site Selection Assignment

Text of E-Mail Sent 10-18-98

We don't have time to cover both the longer project reports and the site selection reports in class. Since class discussion is essential to the project reports, I'm leaving them unchanged. However, the site selection assignment will now be done as a Web document.

The concept and basic instructions remain the same: Select a Web site that manifests or raises some problem that is larger than just incompetent production or technical flaws. Write a brief (1000-1500 word) essay explaining this problem, with specific reference to your selected site as needed.

Deliver this report in an appropriately designed frameset. Put your essay in one frame and the selected site in another. If you have links to particular pages within the selected site, embed those links in your essay. Remember that links across frames require a TARGET attribute. For a brushup on frames, see the Communications Design frames tutorial.

Your site report is due on the day you chose for it. I will build a directory of site reports into the class pages so that we can all review them as they come in.

Please place your site report files (frameset, essay page, and any other necessary documents) within your personal folder on Superserver, in a subdirectory called siteSelect. Name the frameset page index.html.

This change is not retroactive. Anyone who has already presented a site report may disregard this message. If any of you do build a report page, let me know and I'll add it to the directory.
