Course Requirements

Class Report

Every member of the class will describe a business or publication project that could be implemented on the Internet with current technology. Submit a 1000-1500 word (4-6 page) report discussing the following:

  1. The concept and "deliverables" (object or service to be produced)
  2. The intended audience
  3. Why this is an appropriate project for the Internet
  4. Competing projects already in the market (cite URLs or show examples)
  5. How your idea differs from the competition

Make enough copies of your report for all members of the class (about 18 copies). Give a brief (10-15 minute) oral summary of your report and be prepared for class discussion of your ideas.

Site Selection

Every member of the class will select a problematic Web site for class discussion. This cannot be a site that is "cool" or "awesome"; nor should it be merely a botched, broken, or amateurish production. Find a competently produced Web site that raises some important question about communication, business practices, social impact, or information design. Explain this problem briefly and clearly to the class. Be prepared to lead a tour of the site. Turn in a brief (1-3 paragraph) written summary of your comments.
