Barlow's Declaration (the StretchText)

This demonstration shows a more plausible implementation of Ted Nelson's "stretchtext" concept, using DHTML effects. The following simple outline of John Perry Barlow's Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace may be expanded one section at a time. Imagine a somewhat more refined version of this design used in software help or a legal document.

I've used the display property instead of innerText or innerHTML replacement here. To examine the code, view source for the page. Everything you need is in the markup. The scripts could have been written more elegantly. I've deliberately taken a more awkward and detailed approach to make the code easier to understand.
