Ground Rules for Content Projects
Part II

  1. The maximum display width for the publication will be 600 pixels. No single page OR FRAMESET may exceed 600 pixels in width (that is, the total horizontal space occupied by all frames must be 600 pixels or less).

  2. Frames may be used, but any links out of the local context (article or department) must contain TARGET="_top" in order to break out of the current frameset.

  3. Local style sheet and JavaScript effects are allowed, provided they are readable in all four reference browsers (Windows/Mac IE/Netscape). Remember that you are limited to fonts likely to be installed on standard systems.

  4. Common style sheet and JavaScript pages will be maintained at the root by the Managing Editor. Consult with her about proposed contents.

  5. You may design navigation within your department in any way you find reasonable, with two requirements:

    1. Every page will contain two links to the main contents/arrival page, as specified below;

    2. Every page will contain an information link running to a page that explains where the reader is both globally (in our joint publication) and locally (in a particular part of that publication); this info page may be a pop-up window or a distinct page.

  6. Key space at the top of primary content pages is reserved for a standard page header. This header will be 75 pixels high and run the full width of the page. This rule does not apply to secondary or utility pages such as tables of contents or navigation palettes; for an illustration, look at the construction of this page. This header will carry the general logo and one of the two links to main contents/arrival. This content will be positioned in the upper right corner of the header strip and will be designed by the Managing Editor with consultation from the class.

  7. A standard footer will run full-width as the last element on all primary content pages. The footer will contain the general logo, a second link to main contents/arrival, copyright information, and a datestamp.

  8. Work may be copyrighted either by individual authors or by groups. The School of Communication Design asserts a non-exclusive right to post your work on the Raven Web server provided that notice of copyright is attached.

  9. It is in your interest to propose a color scheme for your group as soon as possible. A minimal scheme would include settings for BGCOLOR, TEXT, VLINK and LINK. These colors need not be "Web-safe."
