A course on information design, usability, and the culture of the Internet and other digital media. Readings, research reports, projects.


PBDS 664: Hypermedia Production
(Stuart Moulthrop, Fall 2000)
A course that combines research on emerging digital technologies with practical Web design and publishing experience; further coverage of scripting and DHTML as related to production of an actual Web publication. See raven.ubalt.edu/production.


PBDS 753/4: Dynamic Web Sites
(Erich Spencer, Spring 2001)
This course surveys concepts and techniques for developing Internet applications, focusing on the connection between Web publishing, information design, and databases. Among other things, this course offers an introduction to Structured Query Language (SQL) and the ColdFusion application server system.


PBDS 753/4: Interactive Multimedia
(Stuart Moulthrop, Spring 2001)
An introduction to multimedia design and production using Macromedia Flash and Director. Students learn basic production and scripting techniques (FlashScript and Lingo) through a series of design projects.


PBDS 753/4: Advanced Multimedia
(Julie Simon, Fall 2000)
This course goes into greater depth concerning the integration of digital audio and video in Macromedia Director. Some previous experience with Director is suggested but none is required.
