Annotated Bliblography Assignment
Due March 6, 2007.
Prepare the annotated bibliography section of your final project proposal.
List at least 25 sources. Each entry should be accompanied by 3-5 sentences explaining its primary claims or contribution to knowledge in your area, its significance for your project, and any reactions or notes you may have concerning the piece. For citation format and style suggestions, please use APA style.
Divide your bibliography into three parts:
- Intellectual and cultural background: Sources that help establish the broader context of your work.
- Directly related research: Publications that furnish important technical or content information for your project.
- Models: Research in your area of interest that bears some similarity to your proposed project. Be prepared to say how your project differs from its models.
The following ground rules apply:
- You may use no more than five sources from newspapers or magazines. Newspapers of record (New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal) are acceptable. USA Today is not. The Baltimore Sun is acceptable only for matters of state and local concern.
- You may not use TV or radio news broadcasts. Broadcast interviews are acceptable if they are in extended rather than spot format and if you obtain a transcript.
- Do not include sales materials or commercial communications unless they have a substantial technical component. So a company white paper or technical report would be acceptable but brochure copy would not.
- You may use online sources but avoid those with poor quality control such as some blogs and unmoderated USENET newsgroups. For every source you cite in any medium make sure you understand the author's identity and claim to authority.
