Simple Tweening Explained

Follow these steps to create simple tweening effects in Flash (for instance, linear movement, scaling, tint, and alpha effects).

Step 1

Create a new layer (or begin with the first frame of the first layer, which is created by default when you set up a new Flash file). Drag a symbol from your Library onto the Stage, as shown above. This action creates a keyframe to contain an instance of your symbol.

Step 2

Move to the timeline for the relevant layer, placing your mouse on the frame number where you want the final keyframe of this tweened animation. Right-click (Windows) or click and hold (Macintosh). From the resulting menu, select Insert keyframe.

Step 3

Move your cursor somewhere into the space between your first and final keyframes. Right-click or click-and-hold. Select Create Motion Tween.

Step 4

Click on the first frame of your animation to select it (and thus the symbol instance it contains). Move or otherwise change the instance so that it reflects the desired initial state. In the illustration above, I have moved the text graphic to the left so that it will slide to the right when the animation is played.
