General
After the first assignment, all work in this course is subject to peer response. The week after each assignment is due, you'll examine the work of three classmates and fill out a one-page peer response form. The forms you receive will have the names of your reviewees entered on them.
I'll collect the forms, read and record them, then remove the respondents' names and distribute them to the authors of the projects. Assignments are made on a rotation, so that you will respond to a different group of classmates on each assignment, and vice versa.
The form asks for comments in three areas--Concept, Function, and Aesthetics--as well as a numerical score on a 100 point scale. Though I reserve the right to differ from the peer responses, I will consider both comments and scores in making up my grades.
Scores
There is an important restriction on the numerical scores. The points you award for any single project are deducted from a total of 260 points; so if you award 100 points to one project, you have only 160 points to divide between the remaining two. If you assign more than 260 points, I will deduct the excess from the scores for your own project.
Deadlines and requirements
Unless otherwise announced, I expect all work to be ready for peer review at the beginning of class the week it is due: this means relevant Web pages must be accessible on Crow in the designated places. Work may be turned in up to one week late, but no such project can receive a grade of A or A-minus.
If you are assigned to review work that is not available on the due date, note this on the form and return it to me. You will receive credit for your review. If you do not turn in peer reviews by the deadline (the class following the project due date), your grade for the project in question will be docked one-half step for each missing review.
I can grant exceptions in cases of illness, accident, or other legitimate emergency. If you must miss a deadline for business, family obligations, or other discretionary reasons, you must be sure your project is accessible by the due date. In the case of responses, you may turn them in by fax (410/837-6029) or e-mail (smoulthrop@ubalt.edu).
A Word version of the response form is available in the peerForm folder within MMShare on Crow.
Finding your classmates' work
Generally speaking, you can find work on Crow under a student's last name, thus:
crow.ubalt.edu/mm/lastname/
If you are unable to connect to a classmate's index page by typing a standard address in the form above, go to the class index page on Crow:
http://crow.ubalt.edu/mm/MMShare/
All student directories are linked from this page.
