Course Policies

Requirements

In-class quizzes (30%)
Homework (30%)
Final Exam (40%)

Grades

I will correct any legitimate error of fact or calculation, but you may not repeat or re-submit work for a higher grade.

Final Exam

The final examination in this course is identical to the Hypermedia Proficiency Exam.

The technical elements of this course are designed to prepare you for the Proficiency Exam.

Quizzes

There will be a short, graded quiz at every class meeting.

Any reading assigned for the current meeting, either from the technical reference or other texts, is fair game for the quiz.

Quiz questions may also be based on important material covered in the previous class.

Class Notes

A complete set of course notes is available. The notes provide an overview and commentary on the technical material and contain advice and examples.

You may print out these notes from the Web site.

Due Dates

Legitimate reasons for missing class include illness, specific family emergencies, and unusual job demands; they do not include car trouble and vacations. Discuss any absence with me, preferably in advance.

Unless specifically excused, homework may not be submitted more than 7 days late.

You may only make up the daily quiz if your absence is excused.

If You Miss Class

Read carefully the class notes posted on this site.

Ask a classmate for help.

Do not leave phone messages or send e-mail asking me to fill you in on what you missed.

Labs
I will distribute step-by-step practice labs which you may complete on your own.

You may use the Hypermedia Room (but not the main Graphics Lab) to work through these exercises. The labs are designed for any computer, so you can also work at home. In some cases you may need to download material to a floppy or Zip disk.

I will not collect or grade your lab work.

I will go through each lab as a demonstration at the next class after it is given out.

You will do better in this course if you work through the labs.

WYSIWYG editors

You may not use code-generating programs like FrontPage, PageMill, and Dreamweaver during this course.

I will not accept work produced with these programs.

File storage

Files stored on the student server will be purged at the beginning of the next semester. You must keep backups of any files you upload.

Other Policies

See my general academic policies for other rules and assumptions that apply to this course.
