Research Paper

Your research paper is to act as part of a "literature review" for your group's project. In it, you should define the nature of your group's project and the key question or questions your research is undertaking in order to situate the project in the broader concerns of the professional community of HCI practitioners and researchers.

The sources for your research may be a combination of peer-reviewed literature (from ACM publications or in cognitive psychology or human development, etc.) and materials from other resources (PR from corporations, newspaper and magazine articles, blogs and usenet postings, etc.).

For students in the MS or one of the certificate programs, the paper should be 6-8 pages (approximately 1250 to 1500 words) and must include at least 4 peer-reviewed sources and a total of at least 8 sources. For students in the doctoral program, the paper should be 10-12 pages (2500 to 3000) words and include a minimum of 8 peer-reviewed sources and a total of at least 12 sources.

Using the ACM Digital Library

From on campus, you can access the ACM Digital Library directly from Langsdale Library's list of databases either by title or by subject (Computers/Technology):

If you're off campus, you have to use the USM library portal, Research Port:

(the off-campus link for ACM in the database lists linked first above can take you there or you can go directly to Research Port off Langsdale Library's homepage). Research Port requires students to first select the campus (UB) then enter their 14-digit barcode and last name.

If you don't have a barcode you can request one using an online form:

Or call 410-837-4260 or email langcirc@ubalt.edu to get one.
