Homework 10-01-09

Assignment: Choose Option A OR Option B (not both).

Option A

Using the project from Lesson 4 in PS-CIAB as a model, build a collaged image with at least four layers, substituting for Hawaii either Baltimore or some Baltimore neighborhood (e.g., Hamden: Land of Enchantment; See Dundalk And Die; I Like Big Arbutus; Catonsville: Mostly Harmless). Choose appropriate, non-copyrighted source images. Try to choose images relatively high in quality, like the professional images in the lesson.

Your project must include at least one text layer, and at least one layer with a non-default Blend Mode. Image dimensions are up to you, but please stay within reasonable screen size (800x600).

Option B

Download the starter file. This Photoshop document has three layers, each containing a component of the finished image (screwdriver, face, abstract painting). Modify the image until it looks exactly like the one below, minus the overlaid text "SAMPLE:"

finished Option B

To arrive at the solution, you will need to re-order the layers, change the color of the lines that define the screwdriver, and alter the Blend Mode of at least one layer.

Submission Instructions (Both Options): Save your final image from Photoshop in JPEG format. Name this image 100109.jpg. Upload this file to the gfx subdirectory of your COSC160 directory on the student server, as in previous assignments. Add a link to the index page of your COSC160 directory pointing to your work.

As always, I will not grade work unless it is presented according to specifications. Check your site and be sure your work is properly linked.

Attributions: If you choose Option A, please do not use copyrighted images. Plenty of Creative Commons work is available at Flickr and other sources. If you use a royalty-free image that requires an artist credit, you may insert it on your home page by adding a paragraph to the markup, immediately below the link for your homework image. (If you do not know how to add a paragraph in HTML, ask me to show you.)
