Throughout my academic and professional career I have sought to explore various forms of interactions, interactions between people and the environment, direct and mediated social interactions, human computer interaction and software system interaction. The following is a brief sample of some of the projects I have been engaged in.

The book with its static text and isolated pages may seem somewhat of an anachronism to those born into the digital age accustomed as they are to the interactivity and connectivity offered by the digital web and video games. To explore the ways in which the static linear narrative of the book can be made engaging, or dare I say palatable to those accustomed to the customs of the digital world I developed Alph an online reading environment in which readers can interact with one another through the pages of a book.

CAD Fusion
Incompatible file formats and unfamiliarity with a particular interface may keep user communities apart even when they share a common interest or need to collaborate on a project. CAD Fusion was designed to bridge the chasm between the realm of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and the realm of Computer Aided Design (CAD) by enabling users of ESRI's ArcView GIS to view, edit and export files in the native format of Autodesk's AutoCAD system and thus achieve a higher level of collaboration

DominoGIS
Geography matters, knowing where your clients are, how to quickly get to them and what are the prevailing conditions in their area is imperative to the success of any organization. However integrating geographical data and analysis into business workflow solutions is no trivial matter. DominoGIS sought to ease the pains of integration by providing a bridge through which workflow applications developed using the LotusNotes/Domino platform could harness the data and analysis capabilities of ESRI's Geographical Information System (GIS) platforms and thus act as a corner stone in the creation of seamless location aware workflow applications.

ENVEIS
Cleaning up hazardous waste is good for the environment but can be a tough assignment in the office as well as in the field as the environmental engineering staff at the Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) in Lakehurst, New Jersey found out when they started a massive cleanup operation and got drowned by the colossal amounts of data generated. The Environmental Engineering Information System (ENVEIS) was developed to enable the environmental management team to handle the mass of data and comply with the myriad rules and regulations associated with any environmental cleanup operation

Shipping Challenge
The challenges of global commerce and navigating the seas are highly complex and provide an excellent setting in which to situate a game that is both engaging and educational. I originally wrote the design for Shipping Challenge as a submission for a game design seminar, however ever since it was posted on the web as part of the seminar web page I have received itinerant emails from perfect strangers inquiring about the release date of the game, so I must have struck a cord with some people. Hopefully one of these days I will actually get around to actually developing it in the mean time feel free to read the design document (381KB Adobe Acrobat)
