Overview of course:

SDE Practicum/Internship

This is a 3-credit internship course intended to give students in the Simulation & Digital Entertainment major professional experience in the development of a computer game or applied interactive simulation. Students may participate in either of two capacities. Some elect to work in an industry firm as an intern. Others will be assigned a role in a project which will be developed on campus with a local university, public agency or business.

Internship students arrange their own internship with the assistance of the Career Center and the approval of the SGE program director. A required paper is due at the end of the internship experience.

On-campus students will meet with the instructors/advisors and work in teams to develop prototypes or completed games for a client. Emphasis will be on designing for usability, providing support for learning outcomes, and infusing fun into the prototype. This semester the practicum is held at the University of Baltimore center at the Universties at Shady Grove campus.

The client for Fall 2009 is Baltimore County Public Schools. Participants will produce a learning game or virtual learning simulation for PC and XBOX for use in the BCPS L.i.V.E. project.
